Un solo luogo determina ogni vino.
The vastness of our land allows us to dedicate every single grape variety to its perfect exposure. Nebbiolo caressed by full sun, Moscato in the cool breezes, in a mosaic of biodiversity. Fifty hectares of clay and limestone, amidst autumn mists and steep slopes. This is no generic origin, this is what makes Calosso unique.

Il suolo che non si può replicare
The slopes of Calosso present a striking geological dialogue, alternating between dense layers of compact clay and friable, light-colored limestone. In warmer, drier vintages, the deep clay acts as a natural water reservoir, sustaining the vines through extended heat spells without stress. Conversely, the porous limestone fractures near the surface, forcing root systems to reach deep into the subsoil in search of essential minerals and thermal balance. Perched within the rolling UNESCO-protected Monferrato hills, this unique soil composition—coupled with sharp day-to-night temperature swings—infuses the vines with remarkable structural depth, vibrant acidity, and a distinct mineral signature that makes Calosso’s terroir truly unmistakable.
Every parcel is mapped for sun exposure and soil composition before any other viticultural decision is made. The steep incline—up to 35%—rules out mechanization and demands manual precision.

The Essence of Our Hills
Nestled on steep, sun-drenched slopes where the warm, persistent breezes of the Ligurian Apennines meet cool autumn mists, Calosso’s unique microclimate is defined by dramatic day-to-night temperature swings that allow grapes to mature slowly, while its naturally ventilated ridges and moisture-retaining calcareous clay soils protect the vines through hot summers to yield wines of extraordinary aromatic complexity, vibrant acidity, and timeless elegance.
When the mist is delayed by two weeks, the wine records it. We do not correct for uniformity: we follow what the hill reveals.
Il riconoscimento UNESCO è un fatto geografico
Le colline del Monferrato sono iscritte come paesaggio culturale perché la loro conformazione è rara e fragile. Per La Canova, questo è il punto di partenza, non un argomento di vendita.
